*After many requests, the "Future is Space" is finally up in the print shop. Woohoo! Link
So....Illustration Week, has come to an end. I have to admit, I'm happy that it's over. Though, I had a great time meeting people at the American Illustration party. Unfortunately, this past week was pretty stressful in terms of work so I don't think I was able to fully enjoy it.
This piece is about the ruins in Cambodia called, Angkor Wat. It was found in 1860 by a French botanist, Henri Mahout. Archeologists don't really know why the temple city was built, but suspect that it might be some sort of funeral monument for a king. People who've visited, report a strange effect of feeling suspending in space because of all the reflections of the sky in the water.
I've always remember seeing this temple in , Wong Kar Wai's "In the Mood for Love". For anyone whose seen the movie know that this scene is totally heart breaking. I've always suspected that Sofia Coppola might have borrowed something from this for the last scene in "Lost in Translation". Definitely one of my all time favorite movies. Christopher Doyle, the cinematographer, still blows my mind.
